I, Andre Velthoen, have immigrated from the Netherlands in 2006. I have always worked in IT, first as a programmer, later as an implementation specialist and test engineer on IBM mainframes. One of my main hobbies has always been (since my first Commodore-64 computer), nosing around computer systems and trying to squeeze the most out of them. I still think it's amazing what people could do with the 64 KILObytes of memory that were in the C-64. My first DOS-PC, a 80286, was a real playground for me because of its open architecture and during those days I gained enough knowledge so I could sometimes help people out with problems on their computer they couldn't solve. I still think it's a big advantage having indepth knowledge about how MS-DOS works.
As soon as Windows was introduced and many people started using it and it became the standard operating system on most PC's my problem-solving abilities became even more wanted. And up till today not a week goes by or a neighbour, family-member or colleague needs some advice or plain 'garbage-cleaning' on their PC. Fact is, that Windows is easy to use but it also leaves a lot of unwanted traces here and there that eventually slow down your PC in a quite extreme way. And this has only increased since more and more people started using DSL.
With my knowledge of PC's I can help people out with similar problems. A slow PC usually doesn't mean you have to throw it away or sell it but it just needs a thorough cleaning. I'm using a personal approach, I will come by your house and explain to you what I'm doing when I'm doing it if you want to and by the time I leave you will be able to enjoy your refreshed PC. If required I will also remove unnecessary spyware/firewall/virus- suites that you pay a lot of money for and replace those by equally or better FREEware that will have far less impact on your systems memory, so that by itself will greatly increase your PCs speed.
I can also design and implement websites. To get an idea of what I have done so far, please follow the Links-section from the main menu of this website. I might add that the websites I have done so far don't look as flashy as some of them out there but I can promise you that what I build is very reliable, works correctly on all webbrowsers (Windows, Linux or Mac) and is easy to maintain.
I am able to do all of the above next to my regular job. During weekdays I'm currently working as a Software QA Specialist. In plain English that means that I test software. This includes writing testplans, coordinate testing, execute testscripts and report on defects.
